CONCERTS TO BE RESCHEDULED. The Artistic Advocates for Healing are sponsoring two Remembrance Concerts to raise funds for Sunflower House and SafeHome. The performances were scheduled for next week, but have been postponed. Stay tuned for details about the new dates. Both concerts will be held at the Country Club Methodist Church, 400 W. 57th Street, KCMO 64113. There will be no charge for tickets to the concerts, but free will offerings will be collected at both performances.
Concerts will be conducted by Minor Garrett with soloists Laura B. Lowry, Jay Carter, Andrew S. Childs, and Ron Witzke. The concerts feature Hindesmith’s Requiem For Those We Love, Section 10; Debussy’s Noel for the Homeless Children; and B. Garrett’s Requiem for Broken Souls.
In 2004, Barbara Garrett, Executive Director of Artistic Advocates for Healing and composer, was inspired by a survivor to write a piece of music to honor all victims of violence and abuse. As music began to flow from her hand, a group called Battered Souls Advocates was created as a 501(c)3. The name was later changed to Artistic Advocates for Healing. The charity’s mission is to promote healing and peace through performance and artistic events for people who are struggling with the aftermath of violence and abuse. It’s volunteers work hard to raise money to stage the free concerts. Donations taken at the concerts are then shared with charity partners.
