Who We Help
Child abuse is on the rise in our community. If you are a parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle, if you smile and wave at the neighborhood children and yield at the traffic stop for elementary students on their way home from school, chances are you know a child who is now or has been a victim of abuse. National statistics tell us that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will fall victim to child sexual abuse before they reach adulthood. In simple terms, one out of every four girls and one out of every six boys in your child’s classroom will be sexually abused.
With your support throughout the year Sunflower House is able to change the lives of children and families in our community. Sunflower House is a place of hope for children who have fallen victim to abuse. When a child passes through our doors, they are listened to and cared for. Abused children want to be heard. They yearn to be believed and in some cases rescued from their abusers. Sunflower House, with the help of law enforcement, child protective services, prosecutors, mental health professionals and victim advocates, is the life raft in the survival of children and families in Johnson and Wyandotte Counties.
